Pandemic Period, West Sumatra Agricultural Commodity Exports Rise 53 Percent

Jakarta – The Agriculture Quarantine Ministry of Padang, West Sumatra, noted that there was a significant increase in requests for export facilitation for superior agricultural commodities of West Sumatra in the January to September 2020 period, reaching 432.57 million tons.

“Based on data on the quarantine system, IQFAST Padang Agricultural Quarantine, it was noted that the facilitation of commodity exports was recorded at Rp1.65 trillion, an increase of 53.1 percent over the same period in 2019,” said Head of Padang Agricultural Quarantine Iswan Haryanto in Padang, West Sumatra, Saturday, November 14, 2020. .

He said that in the same period of 2019, the export volume was recorded at only 282.47 million tonnes worth IDR 1.46 trillion with superior commodities in the form of mangosteen, rubber, cinnamon bark, palm kernel shells, palm oil cake, and coconut derivative products.

“The increase occurred due to the incessant movement of three times the export of agricultural products (gratieks), which was initiated by the Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo, which has stimulated the potential of agribusiness in the midst of the pandemic, so that exports of superior agricultural commodities in West Sumatra have increased,” he said.

According to Iswan, in support of gratification, the Padang Agricultural Quarantine accelerates the service of quarantine measures and also routinely provides technical guidance on fulfilling sanitary and phytosanitary requirements as required by export destination countries.
